By their very nature, Carbon Graphite and Electrographite Materials are porous with the majority of this porosity being interconnected. After manufacture, both materials are often used as is with the open porosity. Other applications however are benefited by the porous component being impregnated to either reduce or close off the Porosity (e.g., in the case of a Mechanical Seal Component), or increase specific characteristics (e.g., Strength, Electrical Conductivity, Thermal Conductivity, Oxidation Resistance).
